BLANTYRE--America's famous KFC Restaurant is in town. Blantyre, the commercial capital, that is.
It opened its doors on Sunday with a bang, as hundreds of customers literary besieged the restaurant to sample its products with its delicious fried chicken, thanks to Afribrands Limited and Yum Africa who brought the KFC franchise to Malawi.
Industry and Trade Minister John Bande was over the moon when he officially opened KFC, saying has high prospects of creating jobs and help accelerate economic growth as the firm was both in the service and production industry.
He said KFC had expansion plans which will cost K220 million.
"I know KFC is a high standard and quality venture," Bande said, and urged the firm to source its products such as potatoes, chickens and tomatoes from local producers.
Africa Brands director Hamza Tayub and Yum Marketing director Oscar Makola as well as CEO of banks and big firms attended the opening ceremony.
KFC, short for Kenkucky Fried Chicken, is the second largest restaurant chain in the world.
