BLANTYRE--Shortage of empty bottles is causing shortages of beer and soft drinks, solo manufacturers Carlsberg Malawi said Friday, saying empty bottles were not being returned from the market for new stocking/

It was not clear why customers cling on to empty bottles, despite a previous campaign by Carlsberg urging people to return the empties.

Apart from this, the firm's publicist Towera Pilling told the Daily Times Business that production was disrupted by water scarcity due to recent strikes by Blantyre and Lilongwe water Boards.

The Lilongwe plant didn’t produce the products for three days, while in Blantyre, production stopped for two days, Pilling said.

Water and power interruptions are a constant worry in Malawi to industries.
