BLANTYRE--Engineer John Kandulu is the new boss at the Electricity supply Commission of Malawi (ESCOM), the troubled parastatal with a dismal performance.
His appointment to the hot seat was confirmed by the Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, Nwazi M'nthambala, who told The Nation newspaper that he was successful in interviews.
Kandulu becomes CEO after seven years since the last boss Allexion Chiwaya left ESCOM in 2005, The nation said.
ESCOM, which has all its power stations located on the Shire River, fails to generate enough power to meet the country's rising demand. Most of the power is used for manufacturing as only 12 percent ofMalawians have power in their homes.
