BLANTRYE--Application of science and technology remains one of the great drivers for industrial development, Malawi’s minister of Education, Science and technology, Eunice Kazembe has observed.
Speaking during the official opening of the second science and technology fair in Blantyre Wednesday, the minister said the country relies on advances in science and technologies in almost every facet of industrialization.
Kazembe observed that the country failed to sustain the economic growth achieved in the past years because of the weak foundations of the basic structural and economic fundamentals.
“The Malawi economy has passed through and is still faced with quite a number of economic challenges to create a favorable climate for investment.
“These challenges are there not because we do not have the resources, but due to our inability to sustainably use them. What is missing in the chain is the development and use of the science and technology to develop our resources to create a favorable environment,” she said.
The theme for science and technology fair, co-organized by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and the National Commission of Science and Technology (NCST), is ‘Science and technology; Catalyst for industrializations’.
