LILONGWE--Upon being given the greenlight, international mining company Globe Metals and Mining Africa Limited says it is ready to invest $12 million in the Kanyika niobium project in Mzimba.
Les Middleditch, project manager for the company, was quoted by the Nation as saying the investment was viable and they just need to ink a memorandum of understanding with the government to start digging.
He said if all is in order, mining could start in December for the niobium, which is a niche mineral for steelmaking.
Uranium mining in Karonga is Malawi's biggest foreign investment. Mining contributes about 5 percent to the national income.
