Word from Wise One: Me against the world

REFLECTION

When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. After some time, I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried instead to change my country.

When I learnt that I couldn't change my country, I began to focus on my city. Unsuccessful, I settled on changing my township.

I failed.

So I said OK I will use my email and Facebook accounts to at least influence change in my friends. That too failed. Dejected, I gave up on the idea of changing my friends and concentrated on my family.

Sadly, this didn’t work either.

I was a failure – a certified failure. I had failed to change the world, my country, my city, my location, my friends and my family.

Now, as an old man, I realize my mistake.

The only thing that I could’ve and should’ve changed is: myself.

If long ago I had changed myself, I could’ve had an impact on my family. My family and I could’ve influenced our friends. This changed group could’ve changed our township.

Our township in turn would have changed our city. Our city’s change would have impacted on our country and our country would have changed the world.

Reflection:

Am I too late? I guess not. I am, as you read this piece, changing myself. What about you? I can assure it is never too late.
