Malawian bishops urge Catholics to renew commitment to God

BLANTYRE--The Roman Catholic Bishops in Malawi have urged all Catholics to deepen their faith through reflection and catechetical sessions in order to renew their commitment to God.

The bishops made the call during the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) third annual Plenary Meeting in Lilongwe.

In statement issued Monday, the bishops say the Catholic Church will be celebrating “The Year of Faith” and the faithful should take advantage of the celebrations to renew their commitment to God.

The celebrations will run from October 11, 2012 through to November 20, 2013.

During the same meeting, the bishops agreed to embark on a food distribution and recovery programmes in some food insecure and vulnerable areas in Malawi. They also resolved to publicize and make operational the newly approved catholic sexual reproductive health policy.

The Catholic Church also endorsed the proposal to host a meeting for a Bible Commission for Africa and Madagascar scheduled to take place in Malawi in September next year.
