Malawians in U.S. excited about Pres Banda’s visit

Pres-Joyce-BandaATLANTA, US—Pres Joyce Banda, who attended Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Britain, travels to the United States on Friday where Malawians are excited to meet their country’s new leader.

A source at the Malawi Embassy in Washington told MaraPost the president will meet with Malawians on Saturday in the U.S capital.

But it’s not only Malawians who reside in the Washington who will meet the president. A group of Malawians from the state of Indiana have already packed their bags.

“I hope she is open to new ideas that can really move Malawi forward,” said one Malawian from Indiana where there’s the largest Malawian population in the United States.

The person from Indiana said government officials in South African made it difficult for fellow Malawians to meet Banda when she visited the country soon after she was inaugurated president in April.

“She is our president and we don’t need unnecessary bureaucracy,” the person said.
