BLANTYRE--Matilda Katopola, Malawi's clerk of parliament, was arrested briefly Tuesday before she was released on bail in connecting with a 2008 case in which she was accused of procurement misconduct.
The whole episode about her arrest and subsequent bail was veiled in secrecy, but a police officer in Lilongwe said her arrest had to do with the 2008 charge where her private company offered printing services for parliament at K86, 997.
Katopola was at that time protected by the Bingu wa Mutharika administration and the case never saw the light of day.
