LILONGWE—Escom will do everything in its power to improve its poor service delivery, says Minister of Energy and Mining Cassim Chilumpha.
“Let me apologize to all customers that have paid money to ESCOM but nothing has been done,” Chilumpha told parliament. “Some customers paid some years ago and have been waiting ever since. I ask the customers to accept the apology. ESCOM has serious problems because the institution was under collecting.”
The minister, speaking on behalf of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi on Thursday, was responding to a query from Tasokwa Msiska (Rumphi North) who wanted “to know what is wrong with ESCOM.
“A lot of customers have paid for transformers and extension of lines but nothing has been done. I have in mind Nkhomboni CDSS in my constituency which paid for extension of lines in 2009 and the distance is only 400 meters from the pole.”
Msiska went on ask: “How can ESCOM fail to address this simple issue? Where else should we go for assistance? Can the minister explain what is wrong with ESCOM?”
