LEST we forget, thousands of Malawians poured onto the streets of major cities last July to protest against the Mutharika administration, accused of curtailing rights and mismanaging the economy. Like jail birds, the picture shows MCP spokesperson Nancy Tembo (in dark glasses), Anjimile Ntila-Oponyo (Vice President Joyce Banda's sister) and fellow protestors peering through burglar bars at a church hall hiding from police. The two women, alongside several human rights activists, were later rounded up and beaten by police. After two days of protests and riots, police, using live bullets, shot and killed 19 people.
