BLANTYRE—What was announced on Monday by Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda that Henry Mpofu Shaba (Blantyre Bangwe) had left the ruling party was incorrect.

Shaba, elected to the House on a UDF ticket, said the announcement should have said he had left the former ruling party to become an independent.

He says as an independent he chooses where to sit and “in my case I have chosen to be sitting with DPP and therefore I am DPP."

It would appear the Speaker just read and didn’t know this particular member didn’t belong to his party.
