
LILONGWE--An elderly man died Tuesday in Lilongwe after excessively consuming locally distilled spirit, popularly known as
Kachasu (moonshine).
According to Police Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe Kingsley Dandaula, on the night of July 22, the deceased, Redson Kachiwila, who worked as a guard, went out to recreate in a nearby village and later returned to his work place where he joined his colleagues who were already sleeping.
In the morning, he couldn’t wake up. He was dead.
Police said a postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital indicated that Kachiwila’s death was from drinking too much alcohol.
