LILONGWE--The area 23 People’s shop which was vandalised last year on July 20 and resumed business some months later was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday.
One suspect has been caught is in police custody. It’s believed a group of thieves climbed a high brick wall before entering Opportunity Bank which was also vandalised last year and remains closed to this day.
From inside Opportunity Bank, the thugs made a hole into the ceiling which they used to get into the People’s shop which is next to the bank. Security guards outside couldn’t see what was happening in the shop which has all the windows covered with wooden boards.
The shop remained closed for business Tuesday as police were still searching the place to make sure there was nobody behind the ceiling.
The value of the goods stolen isn’t known at this time.
The former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is using high levels of crime in the country to criticise the Banda administration, which assumed power in April, of failing to provide security.
