BLANTYRE--What started as an expected domestic chore ended in
the tragic death of four women in Dedza district this week after a large hole they made in the ground collapsed on them, Dedza Police confirmed Thursday.
Police say the four were excavating clay soil to decorate their homes when they mate their fate.
“The four reportedly left their homes around 10 am but some hours later, one the children alerted the community after she went to check at the site. She found the cave had collapsed and the bodies trapped,” said Dedza Police Publicist Edward Kabango.
Kabango identified the four as Everest Chilewe, 48, of Chauma village, Traditional Authority Chauma, Esme Sefutala, 32, from Biwirira village, Traditional Authority Chauma, Zakiya, 35, and 30 year old Mirriam Muchande came from Kachulu village, Traditional Authority Tambala in the district.
This is the first time for such misfortune top happen in the district, according to the police.
