Malawian family in trauma after attack at home

LILONGWE--Thugs wielding panga knives, raided and roughed up Tiger Gwazayani, an Area 25 suburb resident in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe Wednesday night before vanishing with some valuable items.

The thugs broke into Gwazayani’s house where they terrorized the family before loading their property in the victim’s own truck which however failed to move, thanks to the ongoing fuel shortage.

In a Facebook submission, journalist Peter Gwazayani, brother to the victim, said the thugs went away with a few items after they failed to make way with the vehicle.

He said Gwazayani, who sustained cuts in his head, was rushed to the hospital where they stitched the wounds.

"The other family members have been taken for check-up to the hospital this morning," he said.

Police couldn't comment on the incident.
