Malawi VP Kachali knocks foes' guerrilla tactics: Fight openly

Khumbo-KachaliMZUZU--Politicians shouldn’t hide in the dark and make strange pronouncements as Malawians are better judges of who to believe and trust in leading them, Vice President Khumbo Kachali said Sunday.

Making an indirect reference to a barrage of criticism and reports of his political opponents sponsoring an all out media attack and independent candidates in two Mzimba bye-elections, the vice president said dirty politics wasn’t in the character of the governing People’s Party.

“Here are the people one has been asking about. Here is the political statement from the owners of the party to whoever thinks can finish Khumbo or the President. The People’s Party administration is about Malawians; is about their needs and turning around the challenges people hand-made,” said Kachali.

Buoyed by a huge out for the launch of the Mzimba South West bye-election campaign, the vice president said the love that Pres Joyce Banda has for a common Malawian is evident in the people-centred decisions she has made since assuming power.

“Nobody should come here and say PP is supporting me secretly. These people are being paid by those that failed to govern; those that expect the miracle that Malawians will forget their character and mess. Political fights should be about issues and not personality, here is where I stand, where all these people are saying we love Joyce Banda and her government,” said Kachali.

He said it was unity and trust in the party’s vision that saw different traditional dances gule wankulu and gologolo from Lilongwe and chisamba from Dowa perform at the rally.

The vice president also gave out six motorcycles and 50 bicycles to party leaders, chiefs and schools in the area to help with their mobility.
