Pres Joyce Banda appoints members for 17 parastatals

Harry-MkandawireBLANTYRE--Malawian president Joyce Banda, using her “prerogative to hire and fire”, has appointed board members of 17 parastatals.

The list released Tuesday, shows that the appointments are effective September 10, 2012 and comprises professionals, chiefs and politicians from the ruling Peoples Party.

However, the president has left out Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom), Southern Region Water Board and Eastern Region Water Board.

Here is the list of some of the board members; Medical Council of Malawi has Dr Grace Malenga as Chair whereas Dr Edgar Kuchingale, Dr Joyce Munthali, Dr W. Mulwafu, Dr J Chivundira, Dr M Chirambe and Professor Nyengo Mkandawire as members.

PP Northern Regional governor Harry Mkandawire heads Lilongwe Water Board with lawyer Allan Chinula, John Wiseman Chiromo, engineer Daud Kara, Traditional Authority Dzoole, Deliwe Ng’oma and Edith Mtunga as members.

Chair economist Max Honde and members Vizenge Kumwenda, Clement Chilingulo, former Air Malawi CEO Esther Chioko, Toyota Malawi boss Rosemary Mkandawire and Airtel Malawi Managing Director Saulosi Chalima have been entrusted with the duty of revitalizing Air Malawi.

Former Television boss Rodrick Mulonya chairs the Malawi Housing Corporation where a PP’ Boniface Kadzamira is a member there.

CCAP Livingstonia Synod general secretary, Reverend Levi Nyondo, who was at point at loggerhead with late Bingu wa Muntharika, chairs the board of Northern Region Water Board whereas Faustance Chirwa is chairing the Malawi Council for the Handicapped board.

The National Commission of Science and Technology board is going be chaired by Professor Sosten Chiotha with Professor Kanyama Phiri, Dr Daniel Jamu and Dr Chrissie Muyeriwa as some of the members.

Activist Mussa Chiwaula chairs the Malawi Bureau of Standards, Dr Rex Harawa chairs the Malawi Accountants Board and Dr Lazarus Chakwera has been maintained as chair for Malawi National Council of Sports.
