Malawi’s Republican Party still intact

MasauliBLANTYRE--The Republican Party (RP) has assured its members that the party is still intact, existing and represented in all the regions across Malawi.

RP Treasurer General Langton Chasowa also said they will meet next week to deliberate several issues including filling in of the vacant posts of the party’s chair and secretary general.

Chasowa also said the party’s vice president Sophie Chithyola is acting as the president for RP. Stanley Masauli was until his death two weeks ago the party’s president.

“We are looking forward to discussing several issues, come next week. We are also expected to discuss how we can handle some problems the party has been facing as you know in every party there problems.

“However, let me assure RP supporters that despite the death of its president, the party is still intact and we will keep it strong across the country,” said Chasowa, who is also acting as Secretary General.

Without singling out the challenges, Chasowa said they will also work out on logistics for the party to forge ahead and be a force to reckon with.

RP was founded in 2004 by veteran politician Gwanda Chakwamba and it was among the 16 political parties that contested in the 2009 general election.
