BLANTYRE--The Malawi National Assembly will host the 32nd Plenary Assembly of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) parliamentary forum from 9 to October 19 2012 in the lakeshore district of Mangochi.
The SADC parliamentary forum is an inter-parliamentary organization made up the Speaker and five members of parliament from each member state.
The Plenary Assembly, which meets twice a year in one of the member states on a rotational basis, advises the SADC Summit on matters of regional policy issues and promotes the objectives and programs of SADC, according to a statement seen by MaraPost Monday.
“Malawi will, therefore, host the 32nd Plenary Assembly under the theme “Enhancing the role of Parliament in Budget Oversight and Economic Governance in SADC countries.
“Theme is relevant as most democratic constitutions require appropriations and taxation measures to be approved by parliament in addition to ensuring that revenue and expenditure measures are implemented properly and efficiently in order to enhance good economic governance,” reads the statement dated October 1 2012 and signed by Malawi’s Clerk of Parliament, a Mr. H Njolomole.
Honorable speakers and parliamentarians from the host country, Angola, Zambia, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe will be in attendance.
