I won't attack personalities--Peter Mutharika

Peter Mutharika addresses supporters at Thyolo Community GroundMZUZU--Interim DPP president Prof. Peter Mutharika has said he will not attack personalities, saying he practices 'civilised politics'.

Speaking to thousands who attended the former ruling party's first mass rally in Thyolo since the demise of Pres Bingu wa Muthalika, Peter, who has been christened 'Tate' (Guru) said he "doesn't fear any human who walks on two but God.

'I promised you that I will never leave country and run away. So even if people want to kill me, they will have to do that here in Malawi!' Peter Mutharika

'that said, I will not attack any personalities, that is not how I do politics'

Peter Mutharika also declared his interested to run for the 2014 elections by contesting at the forthcoming DPP convention.

Said he: "Soon, we will be having a convention where members will contest for the position of party president, Secretary General, and even presidential candidate. I will compete for the post of presidential candidate. Anyone is free to challenge me at the convention."

Speaking earlier, the Regional Governor for the DPP Salule Masangwi described PP as living on borrowed time.

'PP yakhalira mazira a eni ache' (PP wants to hatch another hen's eggs) but that won't happen as DPP will get back in government in 2014.

Other speakers, who included the party's vice president Dr. Jean Kalirani, Secretary General Wakuda Kamanga decried lack of security and adherence to the rule of law, high cost of living due to devaluation and lack of remedies to protect the poor.

The party plans to hold a similar meeting in the capital, Lilongwe, next week.
