MZUZU--Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential hopeful Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Sunday head to the Eastern Region where he willl welcome back to the party members who left for the governing People's Party.
The party is hoping the event at Balaka Secondary School will be massive. It's recent rallies in southern, central and northern regions where attended by thousands of Malawians confounding pundits who had been pontificating the death of DPP.
The party's Secretary general Wakuda Kamanga said the party is pleased that Malawians are having a second and careful look at their 2014 presidential aspirant. “Some people were underrating his political stamina just as they did with Bingu prior to 2014, we are very happy that even politicians from that side are talking about Mutharika with some sense of reverence because of those few rallies,” Kamanga said.
Some of the party's parliamentarians who have returned are Luscious Kanyumba of Bwanje South Constituency, Steve Kamwendo of Bwanje North, Damson Chimalira of Ntcheu South, Everton Chimulirenji of Ntcheu North East and Assani Lipande of Ntcheu North. Others are Otria Moyo Jere of Kasungu West, Herbert Bimphi of Ntchisi North and Geoffrey Mbuzi of Ntchisi North East, Fredrick Kamwangala of Lilongwe North West and George Namatumbo of Chiradzulu West, Bofomo Immanuel Nyirenda of Mzimba Luwerezi and Yunus Mussa of Zomba Central.
