MZUZU--United Democratic Front (UDF) interim president Friday Jumbe has categorically refuted reports that he has joined Pres Joyce Banda's People's Party (PP). 

A pro-government online publication reported on Monday that the former finance minister during the Bakili Muluzi administration together with former Speaker Sam Mpasu and Ziliro Chibambo, a former diplomat, were now PP members.

But speaking to MIJ FM Wednesday during Good Morning Malawi program, Jumbe said the story was a fabrication  and described the move by the publication as “destructive and retrogressive politics.”

He assured the nation and supporters that the trio remained members of UDF. To substantiate the claim, Jumbe said that they will today be addressing the party's southern region committee members to map the way forward for the party on different issues.
