Police, Ndirande residents clash over suspected human body parts dealer

BLANTYRE--Police on Wednesday fired teargas in Ndirande to disperse angry residents who wanted to get to a man they claimed was found in possession of human body parts, private parts to be exact.

Jones Chizu, a resident of Malawi’s most populous township also known as Ndixville, told MaraPost the crowd started throwing stones at police who were preventing them from getting to a house where they believed the man was.

"It was total chaos,” said Chizu. “Ndirande was tense this morning."

The man the residents were after doesn’t live in Ndixville; he lives in another township, Chirimba.

Chizu said the man, identified as Matundu, was thought to have come to the house he rents out.

It later transpired that there was nobody in the house, Chizu said.

MaraPost couldn’t independently verify that the man indeed had human body parts in his possession.

The selling of private parts has been in the news in Malawi over the past years, with the belief that these are used for charms to make people rich.
