Malawi motorists now pay K485.60 per litre of petrol, up by 6%

BLANTYRE--Fuel prices went up from Friday by six percent as motorists started paying K485.60 per litre for petrol and K475 for diesel.

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority – MERA - said the price hike was due to the depreciation of the Malawi currency against foreign monies and the increasing fuel prices on the international market.

Before the hike, petrol was selling at K441.10 per litre, while diesel sold at K445.60.

MERA said paraffin will now be selling at K390 per litre from K367, a 6.27 percent increase.

The last time there was a change at the pump was on July 6, creating confusion because many filling stations had not been given notices that the prices would go up and they claimed they made huge losses.
