MZUZU--Two soldiers are in critical condition after a shooting incident at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe.

Chief of Staff, Brigadier Clement Namangale, said on Sunday a jealous boyfriend, who is a private in the army, shot his girlfriend on Friday before turning the gun on himself.

He said the officer, while on duty, approached his lover demanding to know why she had ended their affair. The exchange got heated and he shot her. He then shot himself in the chest.

The two, whose identities weren’t revealed, were rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital where they are in Intensive Care Unit.

Namangale said the matter has been referred to military police.
