New fuel price hike hits Malawi again

BLANTYRE--The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has released a statement announcing new fuel prices effective tomorrow, Friday, 7th September, 2012.

The new fuel prices are as follows: Petrol; K539 from K485.60, diesel; K521.90 from K475.00, and paraffin; K434.39 from K390.00.

These new prices represent an average 11% increase. This sudden development follows another fuel price hike not more than two months ago.

MERA says these new prices are due to global fuel price hike and Malawi’s currency devaluation. This development comes at a time when the association of minibus operators (MAM) just introduced new minibus fares in less than a month ago.
