BLANTYRE - Religious group, the Public Affairs committee (PAC) is scheduled to hold a second all-inclusive stakeholders conference to deliberate the economic and governance situation in Malawi. PAC Executive Director Robert Phiri told The Nation that the theme for the two day conference will be “Time to Restore Democratic and Economic Governance and that the resolutions will be forwarded to the country’s top brass. The conference will run from October 30 to 31 at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
“You know, we were ‘reclaiming our destiny’ during the last conference in March 2012. This time around, we wish to focus on restoring our democratic values which Malawians cherished during our political transition in 1992,” Phiri is quoted as saying Thursday.
Tentatively, the conference will discuss issues surrounding Section 65,the repealed recall provision under section 64, the autonomy of the National Assembly, position on tripartite elections and powers of the Executive Arm of the government, economic hardships that have engulfed the country.
Phiri said they are not trying to incite Malawians but aims at promoting dialogue to attractive constructive criticisms and delegates will have the freedom of expression to raise issues of national importance.
