NSANJE--Traditional Authority Chimombo of Nsanje could be dethroned apparently his for his loyalty to the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) when the party was in power.
Chimombo is said not to have been in good terms with the ruling People’s Party before it took power after Pres Bingu wa Mutharika's death in April.
Chimombo, who was one of the chiefs supporting Mutharika's tough stance on the devaluation of Malawi currency, has been accused of abusing his powers.
His accusers say he has been using his subjects to do his domestic chores and farming and those who don't comply pay stiff penalties.
Last Friday, Nsanje District Commissioner, Senior Chief Chapananga and T/A Somba of Blantyre reportedly went to T/A Chimombo to retrieve his records after paramount chief Lundu failed to do so.
In an exclusive interview with MaraPost, one of the relatives of T/A Chimombo who chose to speak on condition of anonymity claimed that the chief has received threats from PP made at political rallies.
T/A Chimombo is a prosperous farmer in Nsanje and also own maize mills.
