
BLANTYRE--French social media expert Jean–Yves Chainon is expected to visit Malawi on October 23 where he will preside over social media open discussions with Malawian journalists.
A statement made available to MaraPost, Chainon will be hosted by the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section which has organized the media open discussions. Chainon will brush shoulders with journalists in Blantyre on Tuesday, October 23 at Mount Soche Hotel before going to Malawi’s capital Lilongwe for the same programme at City Centre’s Public Affairs Auditorium.
The discussions will dwell much on introduction and presentation of latest digital news trends with emphasis on the birth of social media and its boom; understanding benefits and threats to editorial quality and traditional media’s business model, learning about essential tools and platforms for social media news.
Other topics will include social media in news gathering, social media as a publishing tool, social media as a personal tool (one-man brand, mobile journalism) and how Facebook and Twitter shape and used by the media.
