BLANTYRE -- The Malawi Police in Blantyre have seized a truck loaded with scrap metals including Blantyre Water Board (BWB) water meters and Malawi Telecommunication Limited (MTL) cables suspected to have been stolen.
It is suspected that the vehicle whose registration number is MJ 5931 and belonging to Chisomo Transport was on its way to Mozambique where the items were being taken for sale.
The truck was intercepted at Bangwe road block mounted on the Robert Mugabe Highway. Among the items which were concealed in bags were 54 BWB water meters worth about K352,809 and 77 kilograms of MTL cables.
Limbe Police Deputy Publicist Pedzisai Zembeneko said both the driver, David Misoya, 29, from Katiwa village in Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje district and the owner of the items were arrested but are out on bail. They will be taken to court on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
