BLANTYRE—Malawi’s former attorney Ralph Kasambara was detained on Monday after a scuffle with three individuals.
“It happened this afternoon when thugs came to my office but we managed to overpower them and later took them to police,” Kasambara told Zodiak Radio while in police custody.
Kasambara, an attorney in private practice and leader of Congress for Democrats (CODE), said he had a confession on tape after recording the “thugs” saying they had been sent by ruling Democratic Progress Party to attack him.
Kasambara, fired as attorney general during Mutharika’s first five-year term in 2006, was recently quoted by the media saying a case could be made to impeach Pres Mutharika whose administration has been accused of economic mismanagement and curtailing rights.
