BLANTYRE—Professor Donton Mkandawire, who died on Saturday after an illness, will be buried Wednesday at his home in Euthini, Mzimba, according to the Office of the Speaker of Parliament.
At the time of death, Mkandawire was a parliamentarian for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Mzimba Central.
He served as a cabinet minister under the Malawi Congress Party government and that of the United Democratic Front. Mkandawire was also chief executive of Lilongwe City Council.
Before politics, Mkandawire, who trained as an educationist, taught as the University of Namibia and back home in Malawi he was head of the Malawi National Examinations Board and Malawi Institute of Education at different times.
Viewing of his remains was on Tuesday at the Mkandawire Area 10 residence in the capital Lilongwe.
