MZUZU—People’s team Big Bullets beat Moyale Barracks 1-0 in a thrilling encounter at Mzuzu Stadium in a TNMSuper League match on Saturday.
The game played before a large crowd started on high note as both teams were hungry for goals and Moyale was on the mark 10 minutes into the game but the goal was disallowed. Moyale through Gasten Simkonda and Deos Nkutu, who have just returned from army training, tried to put the Bullets’ defense under pressure but the combination of Chikumbutso Kanyenda and George Nyirenda at the back proved to be a hard nut to crack.
Bullets’ striker Diverson Mlozi scored a brilliant goal 30 minutes into the game. Diverson Agogo Mlozi with his quick dribbles was a solace to the fans as people couldn’t feel the absence of sensational striker Gabbadinho Mhango who was in Ghana with nation team.
Moyale tried to score 20 minutes into the second half but thanks to Bullets goalkeeper Vincent Gonna for his brilliant save. Gonna, who didn’t have a good first half, performed brilliantly in the second half.
Things turned ugly in the second half when a Moyale player attacked Douglas Chirambo. While Bullets were convinced the foul deserved a red card, the referee thought otherwise and punished the Moyale player with a yellow card.
From that point on, the game changed dramatically and it was rough play throughout.
When the referee blew the final whistle, it was as though his turn to experience some tough tackling.
Irate supporters and some Moyale players descended on the referee. Police came to the rescue of the referee as soccer hooliganism reared its ugly head again.
It was a good trip for Big Bullets up North as they also beat Kabwafu-2-1 on Sunday. Heston Munthali and Diverson Mlozi scored for the Bullets who have collected the maximum 6 points from the two matches.
