BLANTRYE--TNM Super League first round is ending this weekend with four fixtures and the results will determine the top five teams on the log table, come Sunday, September 16 2012.
Silver Strikers, popularly known as the bankers, are topping the table with 31 points from 14 games. On position two are the soldiers from Zomba, Red Lions with 27 points from 12 games with Mighty Wanderers on position three with 26 points from 14 games.
Nine teams including the bankers and Wanderers concluded their first around games last week while six teams are concluding this weekend. Red lions, which had two games in hand, travel to the central region to play Mafco on Saturday at Chitowe Stadium before meeting Moyale Barracks on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium in the north. In other games, Bullets is hosting Kamuzu Barracks at Balaka Stadium and Escom United is playing Epac FC at Kalulu Stadium in Ntchalo.
The Moyale-Red Lions fixture is tricky for the latter considering that they are always clobbered by Moyale and recently they met in the semi-finals of the presidential cup and Moyale walked should high with a 2-0 win. However Red Lions’ coach Collins Nkuna is looking forward to collecting maximum points so that they should dislodge the bankers and be first round leaders. In that event, Silver Strikers will be pushed down to position two.
Likewise, maximum three points will catapult Bullets to position three and conclude the first around with 27 points. While a draw can only move them to position four. All in all, should both Red Lions and Bullets triumph, Wanderers and Tigers will be squeezed down to position four and Five respectively. Likely, Wanders followers are wishing both Red Lions and Bullets bad luck so that the standings should remain as it is now because a win for Moyale, Mafco and Kamuzu Barracks can not change anything to the top three.
Moyale Barracks are last but two on the table, Mafco are position 11 and Kamuzu Barrack standing on position 10. Escom United are last but three on the log table. However, the power men, under the tutelage of three senior players, Noel Mkandawire, Kondwani Gawani and Chiukepo Msowoya are also looking forward to bagging three points and move to position 11. Last season they finished runners up.
New entrants Kabwafu FC are at the very bottom of the table as they have only amassed 10 points from 14 games, Bvumbwe Research on position 12 with 12 points whereas Kamuzu Barracks stands on position 10 with 13 points. Vincent Chinthenga of Bvumbwe Research is the current top scorer with ten goals. Silver Strikers is the team that has scored more goals (35) whereas rookies Kamuzu Barracks and Bvumbwe Research have conceded more goals. A total of 16 red cards have so far been flashed.
