LILONGWE--A mouthwatering semi final clash involving traditional soccer rivals Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets is in the offing should both sides go past their weekend opponents in the ongoing Standard Bank Top 8 knock out trophy.
Wanderers, alias Nomads take on Escom United at Balaka Stadium on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in a second leg tussle coming barely a week after the two teams settled for a 1-all draw at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.
On the other hand, Bullets FC take on high nosed Epac United in another second leg encounter at Silver Stadium on Sunday, having beaten the Lilongwe based youthful outfit 1-0 during the first leg at Balaka Stadium last week.
Victory by both sides will mean the country’s age-old soccer rivals meeting in the competition’s semi finals at a later date.
As Wanderers and Bullets gun for semi final slots, another big clash involving Capital city rivals Civo United and Silver Strikers is looming. The two city giants will come face to face in the semi finals in the event that they overcome their Top 8 opponents.
Civo host Moyale Barracks in a second leg encounter at Civo Stadium Saturday, September 22, 2012, a week after the two teams played a 1-all draw at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa with Silver taking a 3-1 first leg advantage against Blue Eagles to Nankhaka Ground, home for the cops.
Wins by Civo and Silver also means the two city rivals clashing head-on in the competition’s semi finals, according to the draw conducted by Football Association of Malawi (Fam) before the start of the tournament.
During random interviews conducted by MarPost Sports ahead of the weekend matches, many soccer fans have tipped Bullets and Silver Strikers to progress to the semi finals, having won against their opponents in the first leg while Wanderers’ and Civo chances are said to be 50-50.
