‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba set to fight Hungarian in US Sept 29

Isaac_ChilembaMZUZU--Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) international light heavyweight champion Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba is scheduled to catch a flight to the US on August 19 ahead of his non-title bout against Hungarian challenger Zsolt Erdei. The fight is slated for September 29 at Foxwoods Resort Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The Malawian-born pugilist, who plies his trade in South Africa, told The Daily Times he was ready for the fight which, he said, he badly needs to improve his record.

“I have finally signed the contract and should be leaving for the US on 19th August to finalise my preparations. I will have enough time to adapt and complete my training schedule,” the paper quoted Chilemba as saying from his base in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He said his manager has hired a body condition expert “because we are aware of the opponent I will face”.

“Erdei is a hard puncher and my body needs to be in shape to contain him,” Chilemba said.

The Hungarian is reported to have posted a 100 percent record in his 33 fights as a professional winning 18 of them inside the distance. But Chilemba said he was not intimidated by that record, saying he is the sort of opponent he needs to improve his record.
