By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Central Region MK40 million Mpico Gateway Mall netball league throws-off mid-July with fascinating fixtures to the Netball fraternity disposal.

The committee’s General Secretary Daniel Chigowo Nyirenda says they are set to roll out the league.

“We are 100% set to throw off the league unless unforeseen circumstances beyond our control but we are optimistic each team is prepared for the showpiece and will honour the fixtures. We are happy with our sponsors and we are anticipating a huge competition”, Nyirenda said.

Some of the fixtures on week one day one including, Sharp Shooters against Lionesses, Belinda will be up against Great Queens, Boma will battle for the first points against Young Eagles.

Week one continues on 14 July as MAFCO entertain Dyna Queens, the defending champions Blue Eagles netball team starts the campaign against Immigration whereas Civonets face Vanessa Sisters, the soldiers from MAFCO will play the second game against Lioness.

The Sponsor and Chairman of sister clubs Vanessa and Dyana netball teams Anthony Msendema was excited that finally the league is throwing-off on July 13 saying they have been preparing for the showpiece.

“We have prepared and our target is for both teams to finish with top four. The season promises to be a tough one as the number of the teams has been trimmed from 17-10, meaning that all teams in the league are top class but we expected such fixtures”, explains Msendema.

Since Mpico started sponsoring the central region Netball league the area 30 outfits, Blue Eagles netball team have been winning the championship.

The league which comprises of ten teams, failed to kick off two weeks ago as the committee with their sponsors joined fellow Malawians in observing 21-days mourning period for the late Vice President Saulo Klaus Chilima and eight others who died on June 10, 2024 in a plane crash in Chikangawa forest in Mzimba district.

The league will run from this month of July through month end of November 2024.

The netball fraternity is eagerly waiting to see which team will break the dominance of Blue Eagles in the league.
