BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-There was a smiling face on Saturday, July 29, 2023, when Member of Parliament (MP) for Chikwawa Nkombezi, Abida Mia, officially inaugurated the Kunyinda Border Police Post at Nkumaniza, Ngabu in Chikwawa district.
The police post is expected to regulate the rapidly expanding cross-border trade between Malawi and Mozambique, as well as combatting criminal activities and cross-border crimes in Chikwawa,
The facility has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a modest grass-thatched structure to a well-equipped unit, owing to an allocation of MK28 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Mia, who is also the Minister of Water and Sanitation, took the initiative to install a borehole at the border post, with funding from the Malawi Relief Fund UK.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for the South East Region, Stain Chaima, expressed his appreciation, highlighting that this endeavor will enhance the officers’ well-being and provide them with better working conditions at the border.
