LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has told Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to allow everyone who wants to contest for various position during the forthcoming August elective convention.
Chakwera appeal comes barely weeks after the party repeatedly issued a statement baring new comers to contest for positions during convention.
He made the appeal during a rally held after the launch of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact 2 in Lilongwe.
“MCP must allow all people who would like to contest for the top position of the party to do so,” declares Chakwera without elaborating.
According to political commentators, MCP-older timers are afraid of new comers to take over their positions for failing to govern the party since last 2013 convention.
President Lazarus Chakwera disclosed will stands for 2025 Presidential elections if MCP convention endorses him.
“The laws of the land allow me for second term, and therefore I will stand for presidential elections if MCP endorses me as their candidate during the party’s convention”, declares Chakwera.
This means, no room for Saulos Chilima for 2025 Presidential bid in Tonse Alliance as he has been claimed to have agreed with Chakwera to support each other in one term per person.
