LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance cabinet ministers are being accused of shunning the current seating of Parliament but rather patronising Chakwera’s functions.

Law makers in the August have condemned ministers for failing to show up to answer questions.

This comes as most cabinet ministers are following Chakwera whereever he goes for state events.

Member of Parliament for Machinga East, Esther Jolobala said, Minister of agriculture only attended parliamentary sessions two days in the current session.

Jolobala said the absteeesm of ministers is denying the members to represent their constituency concerns.

“We are failing to ask the progress of AIP as the minister of Agriculture only showed up twice in the August house this season,” said Jolobala.

Concurring with Jolobala, Member of Parliament for Thyolo Central Ben Phiri said, private Member day only falls once a week and for Minister not to show up on private Members day its a very sad development.

Phiri therefore called upon Chakwera to stop moving around with ministers when parliament is deriberating.

Meanwhile several cabinet ministers are abstent in the August house as they are attending the former finance Minister Goodall Gondwe’s funeral whose burial is set for Sunday.

Parliament is expected to rise next week on August 18, 2023.
