LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to leave the country on Wednesday for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA.
According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry statement issued on Tuesday evening, the plane carrying President Chakwera is expected to depart Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) on September 18, 2024, at 07:30 Hours.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, will attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, to be held at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York, the United States of America, from 20th to 27th September, 2024.
“During the General Assembly, His Excellency the President will attend the Summit of the Future and the High-Level Meeting on the Miombo Forest Declaration”, reads in part, Foreign Affairs Ministry statement.
Adds the statement, “The President will also attend among others, the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance and deliver a National Statement during the United Nations General Assembly General Debate to mobilize global support for Malawi’s developmental priorities.
“In addition, His Excellency the President will hold bilateral discussions with other Heads of State and Government and other Business Executives to continue advancing Malawi’s diplomatic relations and economic partnerships towards implementation of the Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) Strategy and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030”.
The statement reads, “In this context, President Chakwera also host the Malawi Partners Conference 2024 that will bring together investors to discuss the future and potential of food production in Malawi”.
President Chakwera has been in the spotlight over local and international trips and some quarters of the society argue that the tours are dwindling hard-earned taxpayers’ money.
But Chakwera has always defended trips saying they bring impact to the nation.
