LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-A charity golf tournament aimed at raising funds to promote menstrual hygiene for young girls is taking place today at the Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota district.
Organized by Illovo Sugar, this event is part of their initiative known as the Rise for Girls Program, which seeks to provide essential support for girls during menstruation.
Maureen Kachingwe, the legal manager at Illovo Sugar, announced that the company has already invested K100 million into this important initiative, reflecting their dedication to improving the well-being of girls in the communities where they operate.
“This is just the beginning, as we aim to raise an additional K100 million through today’s golf tournament,” Kachingwe stated.
The Rise for Girls Program focuses on addressing the challenges girls face during their menstrual cycles, particularly in rural areas where access to hygiene products and education about menstrual health is often limited.
By organizing this tournament, Illovo Sugar aims to engage local communities and stakeholders to support this vital cause.
The event has attracted numerous participants, including local businesses, community leaders, and golf enthusiasts, all eager to contribute while enjoying a day of sport and camaraderie.
The funds raised will be directed towards providing essential hygiene products and educational resources for girls, ensuring they can manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence.
Illovo Sugar is working closely with various organizations and other companies to amplify their efforts and ensure the success of the Rise for Girls initiative, particularly in regions where they operate, including Dwangwa.
The company’s commitment to social responsibility and community development highlights the critical role that private organizations can play in addressing societal challenges.
As the tournament unfolds, Illovo Sugar aims not only to raise funds but also to foster awareness about the importance of menstrual health and hygiene management in empowering young girls.
This initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to social issues, encouraging collaboration between businesses and communities to create a lasting positive impact on the lives of girls in Malawi.
