KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Karonga United coach Kondwani Ikwanga has said his strikers must be more ruthless in front of goal if they are to turn their dominance in matches into wins in the TNM Super League.
The Karonga based outfit’s tactician made the call in a post-match interview when he was reacting to his side’s 1-1 draw with Mighty Tigers FC at the Karonga Stadium on Saturday afternoon where his charges failed to capitalize on chances that they created in the stalemate.
The result also continued Karonga’s struggles at home where the team has only amassed 5 points out of a possible 15 available points.
According to Ikwanga, there was need for his forward line to sharpen up their techniques when presented with a shooting opportunity on goal.
Noting that shooting drills is the only way that they will improve and end their barren spell in front of goal where they have only scored 11 goals in 9 league encounters so far.
“As a coach I’m really happy with our performances we are carving out a lot of chances for ourselves with the only issue remaining is our finishing and composure in front of goal hence we have to find solutions to that as a technical panel,” he said.
Adding, that coordination among players is also really important hence will also be working on this to find more space on the pitch when attacking.
“Goals are everything to a football match as they decide the points and wins and this stage we should have more points in the bag in the league if it was not for our profligacy but we will work on it and goals will come,” vowed Ikwanga.
However his counterpart Christopher Nyambose who jumped ship to manage Tigers from Karonga before the start of the league campaign, was delighted to come away from home with a point in the bag to Blantyre.
“It was a game of two half’s where we were fortunate to still be level at the break as Karonga had many chances in the opening half but our second half tactical tweaks ensured that we had the better of the second half and should have closed out the game after taking the lead,” he said.
Currently Karonga United sit 7th in the league standings with 11 points to their name from 9 matches while Mighty Tigers are in 11th with 9 points from the same number of games.
