BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In a shocking turn of events, a woman was apprehended by the police on accusations of insulting President Chakwera during his visit to the Zingwangwa township on Wednesday.
The incident unfolded as the president’s convoy made its way through the bustling streets, leaving residents in awe but one woman in hot water.
Eyewitnesses reported that the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, shouted derogatory remarks towards the president, exclaiming, “That’s it, you dog!”
Her words caught the attention of police officers stationed nearby, who promptly took action and arrested her on the spot.
Following her arrest, the woman was transported to the Chirobwe Police Unit for questioning. Confusion enveloped the case as Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer, Peter Mchidzi claimed to lack information regarding the arrest and referred the Maravi Post to Soche Police.
“I don’t have such information and Zingwangwa isn’t in our jurisdiction, you need to talk to Soche police,” says Mchidzi.
Soche Police PRO could not pick up a phone after several attempts.
However, Maravi Post managed to confirm the woman’s apprehension through a police officer who opted for anonymity and is connected to the Chirobwe Police Unit.
The anonymous police officer disclosed that the woman was being held for referring to the passing of President Chakwera’s convoy as “That’s it, dog.”
This revelation has prompted several political analysts to raise concerns about the arrest, questioning whether the woman directly addressed the president himself or merely mentioned his name.
The incident has since ignited a raging debate across Malawi as citizens and experts examine the boundaries of freedom of speech and political expression within the country.
