Internal rift in MCP: Former Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka and sidelined leaders poised for showdown

By Burnett Munthali

Reports suggest that Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka, former Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), along with other senior leaders who feel marginalized by President Lazarus Chakwera and the current MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda, are preparing for a fierce internal conflict within the party. This power struggle appears to be driven by frustrations over being sidelined from key decision-making roles.

Sources indicate that Mkaka and his allies, particularly those from Lilongwe and Kasungu, are discontent with what they perceive as a takeover of the MCP by individuals from Dowa and other districts. This shift in influence is said to be deeply troubling for the faction, as they believe it undermines the historical significance and leadership role of their regions in the party’s legacy.

Some senior figures are reportedly ready to reveal explosive information, including allegations surrounding the death of the late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. These claims are said to implicate certain individuals in a coup-like conspiracy, with the intent to hold them accountable and see them face justice. Mkaka’s camp reportedly seeks to reclaim the MCP for leaders they deem more suitable, specifically those from Lilongwe or Kasungu, who they believe can restore the party’s integrity.

The brewing conflict threatens to break out into the open soon, as both sides appear to be gearing up for a public confrontation that could have significant implications for the MCP’s future.
