BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As a member of the UTM party and a key figure in the political landscape of Malawi, Patricia Kaliati (UTM Secretary General) and her colleagues should have been aware of the limitations and challenges they would face in implementing their promises.
By acknowledging that they had no control over the running affairs of the government during their campaign, Kaliati is essentially admitting to misleading the public with false promises.
This raises questions about the credibility and integrity of the UTM party and its leadership.
If they were aware of these limitations beforehand, why did they continue to make unrealistic promises to the people of Malawi?
Furthermore, Kaliati’s statement that Dr. Saulos Chilima will implement the UTM manifesto in 2025 and beyond does little to restore trust in the party.
Promising future implementation of a manifesto that failed to materialize in the past only further erodes the credibility of the UTM party and its leadership.
It is unlikely that the people of Malawi will take Kaliati’s apologies seriously, given her role in the government and the failure to deliver on campaign promises.
The lack of accountability and transparency in the UTM party’s actions will only serve to reinforce the perception that they are not to be trusted.
It is essential for political parties and their leaders to be honest and transparent with the public about their intentions and capabilities.
Making false promises and then offering apologies after the fact is not only disingenuous but also damaging to the democratic process.
The people of Malawi deserve leaders who will uphold their commitments and work towards the betterment of the country, rather than making empty promises for political gain.
