LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The director of Microbiology directorate Dr Watipatso Kasambala has allegedly been implicated in production of counterfeit COVID-19 certificates.
This was revealed by a whistleblower who has petitioned the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to probe into the matter.
According to the whistleblower, the said Dr has been working with laboratory technologist intern, identified as Innocent Chibwe to produce the counterfeit COVID-19 certificates.
The stool pigeon alleged that he contacted the Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda to inform him about the scandalous activities after discovering that another girl had obtained the COVID-19 certificate illegally.
He was referred him to the Director of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Dr. Samson Ndolo who assisted him accordingly by calling the CHISU to collect the information.
It is alleged that Dr Titha Dzowela of Framings Fund has been contacted by National Bank of Malawi, Standard bank and Reserve bank of Malawi to test their staff and based on the agreement.
We understand that the two corruption individuals are the ones producing the certificates and the money is not going into account 1 as it is supposed to.
The whistleblower also disclosed that contacted the of Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako, to inform him about the lawless activities happening patterning the misuse of COVID-19 funds through the issue of counterfeit COVID-19 certificates but the Minister did not respond.
The whistleblower disclosed that the alleged group of corrupt functionaries are currently planning to produce 10, 000 certificates that will be sold at $80 each for the upcoming Bushiri crossover that is taking place in Malawi, December 31, 2021.
It is alleged that the individuals in mention who are working hand in hand with Flamings funds have been using government resources to produce these certificates to generate funds for personal use.
Prior to the revelation, it is alleged that the said intern has been spending recklessly in Lilongwe and last month.
He however won customer of the month at one renown bar in the capital city, Epic lounge, after spending a million on liquor which is not within his means.
Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda Kandodo is yet to comment on the matter
