Mchinji Boma derby rejuvenates in Chipiku League: Strikers face Villa

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-On Sunday, May 8,2022 Mchinji Boma is expected to be shaken as Mchinji Boma Strikers FC and Villa FC meet in MK15.5 million Chipiku Stores Premier League as they rejuvenate the boma derby which died about 10 years ago.

The then Mchinji Boma derby between Mchinji Boma Stars and Mchinji Ranks could draw soccer lovers from Ndawambe, Tikoliwe, Kamwendo, Mkanda, Tsumba, Zandana and areas around the boma including Nyamawende, Nyamayaphwisa, Maula because of the hype the two sides had when they met.

Boma stars had players such as Dano Mbulo, Masaka Lungu, Kennedy Katete, Goalkeepers Hestings Mtole and Justin Nkosi who nearly qualified to the elite league in 2004/2005 season then known as Robson United but ended up finishing on 3rd position.

Their boma rivals had players such as Jawadu Samir (Jebho) now with Kamuzu Barracks RSV, Willy Magombo, Davie Major, Moses Gatuso, Moses Kalema and these players made the derby so exciting.

10 years down the line without Boma derby, new baby was born in 2014 by the name of Villa FC, sponsored by a group of business men from the Boma and Mwami Boarder led by Yobe Dube.

The team secured the Premier division slot from Mtsiliza United after the 2021 season. It is the team which is currently displaying beautiful football and has attracted many followers.

Mchinji Boma Strikers is also a different team full of youthful players in the likes of Jack Toure and goalkeeper Yamikani Chilima while Villa FC have Emanuel Mwale, Zebron Pedro, Jafali John, Junior Mbewe, Ruben Kayisi and George Stephen.

The two meet this Sunday at Mchinji Community ground in the 2022 Chipiku Stores Premier division match in group C to rejuvenate the boma derby, the game expected to be highly patronized.

Villa FC are sitting on position 2 with 7 points from three games played so far, 3 behind leaders of group C Airborne Rangers who have 9 points, they are coming from a win against Area 25 based side Ekas Freight Wanderers which will act as a morale booster in their camp.

Boma Strikers were taught some bitter football lessons at home by Airborne Rangers last weekend after suffering a 3-5 defeat. They are anchoring the 8 team log table with no point after playing a game.

Thokozani Kaponda said it is an important game of which he can not talk much, but vowed to do better against their elders, Boma Strikers.

He said his charges are eager to play and encouraged them in endurance as they will be meeting an experienced side.

Villa are optimistic of getting three vital points which will see them possessing 10 points and pray that their group leaders lose their game so that they ascend to the top slot.

His counterpart, Bright Manda for Mchinji Boma Strikers FC said they have noted their weaknesses and vow to rectify them ahead of the derby.

He further said they are not undermining Villa FC but hoping to collect their first maximum points at the end of regulation time and promised spectators who will come on the day a beautiful display.

The most interesting part of this Derby, regardless of any result after the game, players and officials from both sides will be seen chilling together in famous clubs in the district such as Wikadzi, Wako, Ku Mango, Gazebo and Kwa Baba at the Western Boarder.
