LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Netball teams in the Central region are expressing their excitement over the return of the MK24 million MPICO Gateway Mall netball league.
After an absence of nearly three years due to the sponsors withdrawing their support because of the impact of COVID-19, the league is making a comeback.
The head coach of White Mlilima Civonets club, Mlilima, expressed their anticipation for the return of the league, as the girls had been idle for a long time, resulting in a loss of form.
Mlilima revealed that they are prepared for the challenge and are determined to win the title for the first time.
“We are here for serious business, training hard, and we are confident about winning the title this year. However, I must acknowledge that it won’t be an easy task.
“This league is beneficial for the Malawi Netball team as it contributes a good number of players,” said Mlilima.
In the second week of the league, Civonets netball club dominated Sharp Shooters with a score of 81-14, while the defending champions, Blue Eagles Netball team, delivered a bitter netball lesson to Airwing by defeating them 90-10.
Parachute Battalion FC lost points for arriving late at the Gate Way Mall Netball court where the league is being played.
The team, however, managed to defeat Great Queens 32-10 in their second game of the day.
Support Battalion suffered a loss of 30-34 against KCH Sisters but redeemed themselves with a narrow margin victory of 24-25 against Vanessa Queens.
